Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is eyeing the NFL and an Olympic debut.

In an interview with Sky Sports News, Kaepernick, who last played in the 2016 NFL season, said he’s “still training” and “still pushing” to make his return to the league.

“We just gotta get one of these team owners to open up,” he said.

Since the 2016 NFL season, Kaepernick has reportedly been blackballed by NFL owners after he protested against police brutality and social inequality by kneeling during national anthems.

The former quarterback has been determined to break back into the league for years. In 2022, Kaepernick was invited for a formal workout with the Las Vegas Raiders but the organization declined to sign him.

Kaepernick recently told Sky Sports News that an NFL return “would be a major moment, a major accomplishment for me.”

“I think I could bring a lot to a team,” he said, “and help them win a championship.”

Kaepernick also said he’d like to represent Team USA at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics in flag football.

“Hopefully we’ll be out there,” Kaepernick told Sky Sports. “We’re gonna work on some things, see if we can make it in there. But we’d love to be out there.”

Flag football is making its debut at the 2028 Olympics alongside T20 cricket, lacrosse (sixes), baseball, softball, and squash.
