Sean “Diddy” Combs has pleaded not guilty to all the charges he faces in New York.
The troubled mogul appeared in court with his attorney on Tuesday morning, September 17, where he formally entered his plea. According to TMZ, Combs is more concerned about making bail. He offered up $50 million in assets to ensure he wouldn’t spend time behind bars before his trial. Brother Love wants to put his mansion on Miami’s Star Island as collateral, which is worth $48 million. The remaining $2 million will come from his mother’s Miami home. He’s also willing to wear a GPS monitor and limit his travel to Florida, New York and New Jersey.
Combs has been charged with sex trafficking, racketeering and kidnapping. The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York alleges Combs and his employees acted as a criminal enterprise to maintain the artist’s power in various industries and fulfill his sexual fantasies through violence, coercion, and other illegal methods. A grand jury reviewed evidence over the summer following Homeland Security’s raid on his two homes in Miami and Los Angeles.
Diddy has reportedly been preparing for his arrest for quite some time. He told federal agents in May that he was trying to sell his private jet. He hasn’t found a buyer for his jet, but it’s currently grounded in Los Angeles for the time being. He gave up passports for himself, his mom, and his children back in April. He also paid off the remaining $18 million on his Miami mansion so that he could use it as collateral.
Despite his best efforts, federal prosecutors have told the judge that they do not want Combs to be released on bail. They consider him a threat to society and a flight risk. The judge agreed and denied his bail. He will remain behind bars for now. Combs could receive a minimum of 15 years, and a maximum of life in prison if convicted.
