NBA superstar LeBron James didn’t stay silent after rapper Kevin Gates made controversial remarks about his wife, Savannah James. The rapper, known for his unfiltered commentary, recently posted a video where he shared his views on the couple’s dynamic. In doing so, Gates compared Savannah to white women who, in his opinion, show more public admiration for the basketball star.
“I don’t like the way Savannah look at LeBron,” Gates said in the video posted on April 19. “I like the way them white women look at LeBron. As soon as he walked out there, they just be like, ‘Oh oh oh.’” Gates went on to suggest that Savannah should be more demonstrative in her support, adding, “She should dive on the floor behind that n***a.”
The comments sparked immediate backlash online, with many fans defending Savannah’s grace and presence. LeBron responded subtly yet powerfully. He posted a photo of the couple on Instagram with the caption, “‘Kings don’t concern themselves with the opinions of peasants.’ Where to next Queen?!?! Let’s get it!” The post also included a Black queen emoji, signaling his unwavering support for Savannah.
After LeBron and Savannah appeared to respond to the comments, Gates released another video, addressing the fallout. “The truth hurts, but it heals,” he said, adding, “Bron, I love you, ’cause you my n***a. Long as you being celebrated, that’s all I care about.”
He continued with a mix of sincerity and bravado. “I don’t care if I got a fallout with somebody, I love to get the results. We gon’ get the results. I’m a life coach and a guru,” Gates said with a smile.
He ended his video with a seemingly warm message: “I love y’all… Sometimes the truth hurts, but it heals.”
Savannah James didn’t address Gates directly but appeared to respond using a Nicki Minaj clip on her Instagram story. In the short video, Minaj says, “What? Um—chile, anyways, so,” a clip commonly used online to dismiss unwanted opinions with humor and grace.
The exchange has reignited discussions about public respect, marriage, and boundaries in celebrity culture. While Gates continues to stand by his perspective, LeBron and Savannah are clearly moving forward with confidence—and a sense of royalty.
