Tia Mowry explains how she was able to overcome her “gut-wrenching feeling” of divorce.
While on her Instagram story, Mowry held a Q&A session, when one fan asked her, “Girl, how the hell do I recover from this divorce? Lord help me, Chile!” The actress and mom of two responded with, “I think I’d say: dive into doing the work. Really, truly focus on self-care. Focus on what makes you happy and what brings you joy. Build a tribe, a community of friends, a support system. Meditate. Try new hobbies. Read books on healing. Spend time with your kids if you have them, or just surround yourself with people who genuinely love and support you.”
In October 2022, the Sister, Sister actress announced her divorce from her husband and fellow actor, Cory Hardrict, after 14 years of marriage. They have two children together, Cairo, 7, and Cree, 13.
As she continued to share her advice, she said, “Do things that feel fun and fulfilling. Travel, if you can. Traveling really helped me. It’s all about creating new experiences. The more experiences you have, the further away you get from that heavy, gut-wrenching feeling of divorce.”
She added, “Also, allow yourself to cry. Allow yourself to feel it all. Just don’t let it consume you. I hope that helps.” In an interview, Mowry said that she created a space for her to be vulnerable in front of her daughter.
“The thing is, as a mother, you kind of try to figure out if you should allow them to see your emotions, your ups and your downs,” she told the magazine at the time. “And I’ve made the choice to move from an authentic place. And allow [Cairo] to see that there are days when Mommy is sad. And that’s okay.”
